Life After Shoin

After Shoin's death, Toshimaro left the clan and went to Edo, where he became a direct vassal to Tsumaki Tamiya and engaged in information gathering, passing back inside information on the bakufu. (?)

When Takasugi Shinsaku formed his Kiheitai militia in early summer of 1863, Toshimaro immediately joined. The month after, he was finally promoted to full samurai status and given the right to Yoshida as an official name. He would be busy going back and forth between Edo and Kyoto, mediating between Choshu and the Kyoto government (which was undergoing political shifts at the time) for the next year or so.
